My connection to the word “spirituality”

Autumn-Reflection-Gaia-Orion-Oil-on-Canvas-20x16-2014

As I am writing this article I am immersed in what I feel is the  most spiritual place: nature. I am camping on a point, on a lake among the spectacular colours of autumn in Ontario, Canada. Last time my husband went to this spot, I love what he said when he came back: “Gaia, I feel like I have been on a meditation retreat, but this is not it; It is when we meditate that we feel  like it is to be in nature!”… no wonder Buddhist teachings always talk about finding our true nature. In our cities and busy lives we certainly are disconnected from any true nature!

World Peace Oil on Canvas sold!

Before I was an artist I always assumed that letting go of a piece of art would be heartbreaking for the creator. I was surprised that for myself it wasn’t so. I remember the first piece of art I ever sold…..

Facebook is a great tool for artists – PART 2: Tips and tricks I have learned

When I started using facebook I quickly realized that my effort and time spent on facebook was not rewarding and effective. I paid a local marketing expert that specializes in social media to teach me individually about all the tricks of the trade (her name is Lynn Martin from Mark Us Marketing) . We ended up spending 5 hours together and….

Why I Turned Down A Louvre Exhibition

Show opening in Paris, January 2015 - Photo by Pacaline Marre

Sometimes seemingly good opportunities can be guaranteed disappointment in disguise.

I first heard about this Louvre exhibition because a local artist was invited by an agent to Paris with her art. She is a very talented artist that paints in the style of the old masters and I thought that her art was a great fit for the Louvre. I never thought for a second that my art could be considered for this show…..

I am an artist and my husband is not a dentist

2015-I-Have-A-DreamI am shocked at how often I am asked “what does your husband do?” It’s like they think even though I am very serious and ambitious with my art, this couldn’t be the whole deal. They are obviously thinking that someone is supporting my expensive hobby.

Well, breaking news: No one is!….

Before I am an artist: I am a mom. My view on  managing our creative impulses with the demands of being a parent.

Gaia with her three kids, Tao, Zoe and Kahala in 1998

This year me being a mom is going through a transition. My son Tao will be turning 18 and will leave the house to travel and study.

When kids come into our lives, the first lesson we are taught is to “be at service”. We may plan to sleep in, watch a movie, read a book, start painting, talk on the phone with a friend… but let’s face it, for many years parents simply don’t have easy access to these simple pleasures. If we want to enjoy being a parent we better accept and comply to this fact…..

Sacred Change image created for Sarah O'Rourke www.sacredchange.com

I’ve enjoyed immensely working with many of my clients and over time some have even become good friends. Sarah O’Rourke from Sacred Change is one of them. Together we have co-created three paintings. When Sarah contacted me with her idea for our last project it came at a perfect time in my creative process. In 2009 I had created Our Journey, a painting describing man’s journey through life along with its trials and joys, all in relation with the cycles of nature…..
